The professional figure of the Midwife has an important role in the Health Professions area because ,as her pertinence,she has the privilege and the responsibility to assist and advice women in a special and delicate period of their life, that means during the pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum.Therefore, the degree course in Midwifery offers to the student an scientific profile filtered by professional requirements, a practical profile of the highest technical value and a cultural profile that favor the communication ,the continuous education and the women and newborn health defense.
What are you studying during the course?
The degree course in Midwifery includes a six-month organization of training activities with a broad spectrum of basic disciplines in the first semester of the first year of the course;from the second semester and for the next two years, then the professionalizing activities are developed with the characterizing and contextual disciplines in the areas of biological, clinical and surgical sciences, human sciences and psycho-pedagogical sciences and health management sciences. In particular ,we study women’s health problems in their biological-sexual cycle and the responses of health and social care services to the main needs of women, newborns and couples. Biological phenomena and the main functioning mechanisms of organs and apparatuses are also studied specifically in the physiology of human reproduction and embryonic development. The fundamentals of physiopathology applied to clinical situations are provided, for pathologies in pregnancy, also in relation to diagnostic parameters. The practical training focuses on assistance to the physiological pregnancy, labor, postpartum, prenatal diagnostics, recovery obstetric, gynecological and obstetric outpatient assistance at accredited facilities of the National Health System, in various locations in the provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The training activity includes lectures, exercises and mandatory practical training. Of particular importance, as an integral and qualifying part of professional training, is practical training and clinical training, carried out with the supervision and guidance of professional tutors and training guides.
What you will be?
Graduates in the field of Midwifery are health professionals who assist and advise women during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum, lead and carry out physiological births with their own responsibility and give assistance to the newborn. This preventive, curative, palliative and rehabilitative assistance is of a technical, relational and educational nature.Graduates in the field of Midwifery ,as far as their competence,participate in health and sexual education interventions both in the family and in the community, psychoprophylactic preparation for childbirth, preparation and assistance in gynecological surgery, prevention and assessment of tumors of the female genital sphere, in the maternal and neonatal care.They manage care interventions of their competence ,in accordance with professional ethics and as members of Health Team.They are able to identify potentially pathological situations that require medical intervention and to practice, where necessary, the relevant emergency measures.Graduates are qualified to carry out their professional activity in health facilities, public or private, or self-employed; they contribute to their own professional profile training and support staff training and they contribute directly to continuous education and research.
